10 Steps to a Prosperous 2009

ith all the doomsayers out there, it’s easy to pull back and hunker down to wait things out. But that’s the last thing we need to do if we are going to move ahead in the coming year. Here are 10 steps to move ahead in 2009:
1.    Stop watching the news. The negative energy out there is overwhelming. Even the most optimistic person feels down after 30 minutes with the local anchor. Exercise your power of choice and TURN IT OFF.  The media thrives in bad times with so much to report. Don’t buy into the negative hype and don’t let them sap your strength.
2.    Maintain a confident presence in your market.  Re-boot your passion for your niche and for your list members. Let your energy fuel them, too.
3.    Be the strong leader others need to see.  Moving beyond your own circle, let your promotional material and your personal presence exhibit resilience and success. Genuine enthusiasm is contagious. Others will be uplifted and encouraged to move ahead, too.
4.    Be a constant encourager in your posts and tweets.  Let’s hear some good news for a change. You can be the broadcaster of your own Good News Show. Your traffic will grow and so will your list.
5.    Examine the reasons for your own profit levels and share them.  2009 will be a year of sharing and helping like none we have seen for decades. Maybe you know how to get the most from your assistants. Maybe you streamline your work day and take the afternoons off. Take some time to think about those things and share, share, share.
6.    Volunteer 10% of your time toward helping those who would normally be your clients.  Hold a monthly drawing for free service. Hand out coupons. Learn to say “This one’s on me.” When you give to others, you will receive much, much more than you gave and in several different areas—financially, emotionally, and even in your health and wellness.
7.    Expand your skills in Internet marketing.  Make it a goal to master one new Internet skill this year. Beef up your blogging. Add to your articles. Set your affiliate program on fire. Choose some weak area in your online presence and build it.
8.    Add another stream of income.  Multiply your products by repurposing. Are you a writer? Start creating audio or video of your work. Are you a speaker? Get your recordings transcribed and put out some ebooks and reports. Maybe you work with adults but you can adjust your message for kids, or start training trainers in your field. Broaden your reach within your niche.
9.    T each others how to maximize their personal resources. The truth is, we need each other. You have mastered some areas in life that will help your neighbor, your colleagues, your clients. Maybe you know how to save money at the grocery or you can squeeze a few extra miles out of a tank of gas. Maybe your childcare costs half what the usual daycare charges. Just thinking about the steps you take throughout our day will give you ideas of what you could tweet and post that would help others.
10.    Don’t back up or back down or cave in.  Keep at it. Yes, you will have some bad days. We all do in any economy. But don’t let energy drains spill over into your business presence. We are ALL in this together. We will walk shoulder to shoulder through this year and come out the other side stronger than ever.
