Quit Your Job - Before They Lay You Off!
When I worked for AT&T in Oklahoma City, factory life always included rumors of lay off. Seems like every week there was a new rumor. "The writing is on the wall boys" someone would proclaim. After nearly 10 years it happened.
I'll never forget the reaction many grown men had when the real lay-off day came! Big stong guys that cried with fear of the unknown.
I took it better than most. I had a part-time business or two, and this was going to give me the chance I needed to put more time into those endeavors!
If you are someone who is facing lay-off, or loss of income (as many have recently with the Wall Street meltdown), you should consider creating more income streams NOW. Even if you have a seemingly steady job. How quickly could that change?
The pyshcological effects of losing a job can be tough on most folks. You will be able to take it MUCH better if you have a plan. Better yet, if you have more than one income stream.
What would you rather have, one income of say $1,000 per week, or ten income streams that each paid you $100 a week? I would take the ten personally! If you lose one or two of them, it would not be hard to replace them.
I take that same approach with my Mini Dow Index Trading. I would much rather be able to make say five to ten small trades a day that each bring me a $20 to $200 return than to wait for one trade that might bring me as much as $1,000. If I miss one of my little trades, I still have several others I could catch.
I have a friend who cleans windows for a living. He told me once that he would rather have several small jobs than a few big ones. He told me that all the other window cleaners that he knows go after the BIG accounts. When they lose an account, he hears them crying and moaning. The same guys keep asking him why he doesn't expand, and go for the BIG ones? My friend silently laughs and goes on with a fairly stress-free lifestyle.
I'll never forget old George, a supervisor at AT&T who told me "Son, whatever you do, get your own business going! Don't count on this job always being here for you." Ten years later I found out how smart ol' George really was! Fortunately I had taken his advice and started a biz or two. George left early, before the layoff with an early retirement check.
If I'd really had my act togther, I would have more quickly expanded my income streams to more like what I have today. Then I would have quit my job with AT&T before they laid me off! I could have avoided seeing grown men cry (but the severance package was good too - take advantage of it and get your income streams going NOW!).
